DENSE FOREST

Subtle brushstrokes render the ‘spectrum of emotions’ as if calming and stroking the heart. Staring at the white paper in silence, I submerge my emotions. In the emptied mind arise inspirations. Breathing with paper and brush as if to catch my breath, the canvas is already filled with an ideal landscape before one realizes it is done so.

Innumerable ink lines drawn and connected with one another on hanji (traditional Korean paper handmade from mulberry trees) form tree branches, the branches gather to become trees, and the trees come together to make a forest of ‘coexistence’. Tree patterns drawn with Oriental ink overlap one another and melt on the canvas to create forms in motion. Distinctive sensibilities and techniques convey the joys and sorrows of life and inspirations gained from daily experiences, which allude to trees and forests.
